At Casa de las Nubes the stresses of everyday life will fade away. Relaxation is inevitable and you will find yourself on “Tico” time. Nature surrounds you but with all the comforts of home.
Read that favorite book you keep meaning to, swing in the hammock, stroll the gardens and grounds, learn Spanish, meditate, immerse yourself in the culture, bird watch or just dream, relax and rejuvenate your spirit. Located at an elevation of 4000 feet, our house is situated on a 7 acre hilltop with sweeping vistas of the Talamanca mountain range, Panama’s Volcan Baru and the valley.
We have beautiful gardens, an orchard, coffee plants, a small creek, milk cows, chickens and a 400 tree reforestation project…

Where We Are Located
The house is located in the southern part of Costa Rica, in the Coto Brus District, approximately 20 miles from the Rio Sereno Panama border, the gateway to Volcan and northern Panama.
Our house is a 10 minute ride by car or taxi to the town of San Vito where you have 3 large grocery stores, 2 gas stations, hospital, doctors, lawyers, butchers, restaurants and my favorite, the panadarias, (bakeries!) San Vito is a completely self sufficient town settled by Italians in 1952.
How To Get Here
- Flying: Arriving to San Jose, Costa Rica, you have to take another short flight to Airport Golfito
- Bus: For $15 a person, Tracopa will take you from the center of San Jose right to the center of San Vito
- Driving: From the center of San Jose, we are approximately a 5.5 hours drive south.

- Bird Watching: Amazing activity! The peak migratory season is January through March
- Beach Playa Zancudo: Is a 2.5 hour taxi ride from our house or 30 minutes by boat taxi from Golfito.
- Finca Cantaros: Enviromental asotiation, withactivities include an environmental education component, you have to visit them!
- Desafios Tours: This company offer you different activities nearby San Vito, as hose back rides, coffee tour and much more!
Bird Watching
Costa Rica is known for its beaches, volcanoes, and biodiversity. Roughly a quarter of its area is made up of protected jungle, teeming with wildlife being bird watching an amazing activity to do! Quetzal birds are amazing to see.
La Casa de las Nubes is located in a very privileged area, where the bird sighting is a very unique experience.
As a birdwatcher you may observe by using their naked eye, by using a visual enhancement device like binoculars, we strongly recommend you to take a pair with you!
